Abstract:

Background: ADAPTATION is a process in which a person is actively involved for a period of time and uses different strategies. ROY’, s ADAPTATION MODEL sees individuals as an adaptive system in a stable interaction with internal and external environment, therefore, they constantly change and try to adapt. When the individual does not make the desired ADAPTATION and hence ineffective responses, nurses learn about it. The present study aimed to systematically review the studies conducted in Iran on the ROY’, s ADAPTATION MODEL. Methods: This is a systematic review study, and it has been done purposefully by focusing on research purpose. A computerized search was performed systematically with no time limitation till October 2021, by using keywords: ROY’, s ADAPTATION MODEL, Nursing and Iran in Web of Sciences, PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, IranDoc, SID and Magiran databases. The articles were evaluated using the Consort checklist. A total of 235 articles were found, and the systematic review of the articles was performed based on PRISMA. Finally, full text of 34 suitable articles were selected and analyzed after several steps of evaluation. Results: Out of the reviewed articles, 23. 52% were published in international journals in English and 76. 47% were published in Iranian journals in Persian and English. All the articles were original researches and intervention studies that 5. 88, 47. 05, 41. 17, and 5. 88% of them were experimental, quasi-experimental, clinical trial, and randomized controlled trials, respectively. Also, in all the studies pre-test and post-test were used, 5. 88, 88. 23, and 5. 88% of them utilized random, availability, and block sampling, respectively. Conclusion: Application of care program based on the ROY’, s ADAPTATION MODEL increased physical and psychological adaptive (healthy) behaviors in patients with chronic diseases, which might improve the patients’,psychological ADAPTATION to the disease, proper disease control, reduction of complications, and quality of nursing care.

Abstract:

Background: Asthma is a common long term inflammatory disease during adolescent. Absence of school education and reduction of mental and social mindedness are among the most common problems found in adolescents with asthma. Therefore, the present study was aimed to examine the effect of ROY ADAPTATION MODEL on controlling malADAPTATION behaviors in adolescents with asthma. Materials and Methods: This study is a semi-experimental research that was conducted with the participation of all adolescents with asthma referred to the Asthma and Allergy Clinic of Shariati Hospital. Random sampling was used for a total of 64 adolescents to have two groups of intervention and control. Data collection was through a questionnaire based on the ROY’ s ADAPTATION MODEL. Over six weeks, adolescents were trained in six two-hour sessions. Data were analyzed by descriptive and analytical statistics consisting of Mann-Whitney, ANOVA, paired t-test and independent t-test. Results: The mean age of adolescents with asthma in the intervention and control groups was 15. 8± 3. 5 and 14. 8± 3. 5 years, respectively. Also, the mean score of malADAPTATION behaviors in four physiological, self-concept, role-function and interdependence modes had a significant difference in intervention group before and after training (p<0. 001), but there was no significant difference in all modes before and after intervention in control group (p>0. 05). Conclusion: Given the effect of ROY ADAPTATION MODEL on the different aspects of malADAPTATION behaviors in adolescents with asthma, it is recommended to use this MODEL as a healthcare intervention for controlling malADAPTATION behaviors in adolescents with other chronic disease.

Abstract:

Introduction: As one of the chronic diseases, epilepsy can affect children's self-steam and life satisfaction by lowering self-steam, that leads to social isolation, reduced self-efficacy and finally affects their ADAPTATION to the disease. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the relationship between demographic characteristics (individual and clinical) and ADAPTATION (based on ROY ADAPTATION MODEL) with adherence to treatment in adolescents with epilepsy. Methods: In this descriptive-analytical study, 111 adolescents aged 10-20 years with epilepsy referred to the Isfahan Epilepsy Association were studied based on inclusion criteria. Demographic characteristics, ROY ADAPTATION and adherence to treatment questionnaire were use to collected data. Results: The results showed that except the age of participants (p=0. 038), the overall score of treatment adherence was not significantly associated with none of the demographic and clinical characteristics items of the participants (p>0. 05). Also, there was a significant direct correlation between the overall score of treatment adherence and the overall score of ADAPTATION which means that increasing overall score of treatment adherence leads to increasing in the overall score of ADAPTATION(R=0. 197، P=0. 019). Also the overall score of treatment adherence had a direct and meaningful correlation with the score of ADAPTATION aspects. Conclusions: Regarding the mentioned results, interventions which increase adolescents’,ADAPTATION with their disease can promote their adherence.
